Support AFI as a Community Resource

Posted April 8th, 2009

Would you like to be listed as a community resource supporting the ACSM American Fitness Index™ in the top 50 metropolitan areas? ACSM is currently seeking members and organizations within the top 50 metropolitan areas that are willing to be included in an AFI database for community leaders. The community leaders will be able to tap into the database for additional expertise and resources on physical activity in their community.

As an AFI community resource, you will volunteer to:

  • Support ACSM’s efforts to bring a greater focus on physical activity and exercise in community settings.
  • Support communities interested in connecting with organizations and existing programs to collaborate on physical activity/healthy lifestyle initiatives.
  • Serve as an expert on physical activity in your community.

To volunteer for this important initiative, please send a message with your contact information to afi@acsm.org.

AFI Program Poised to Improve Healthy Lifestyles

Posted April 6th, 2009

ACSM convened the ACSM American Fitness Index™ expert panel meeting on March 2-3, 2009, with key representatives from American Medical Association, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services, National Recreation and Park Association, National Association of City and County Health Officials, and YMCA.

The group participated in a strategic brainstorming process for the development of the AFI Community Action Guide, a new tool for communities to utilize in conjunction with the AFI data report. Both resources will be unveiled at ACSM’s Annual Meeting in Seattle, Wash., during the final week of May.

For questions on the AFI Community Action Guide, please contact the AFI program manager at afi@acsm.org.
